There is an estimated 60 000 elephants living in the park, which is thought to be the largest surviving elephant population in Africa.

Chobe is the 2nd largest game park in Botswana covering 10566 square kilometres. Herds of buffalo numbering up to 700 and great swaying families of elephant are a common sight. All major species including giraffe, elephant, zebra, impala, tsessebe, roan, sable, wildebeest, kudu, buffalo, waterbuck, eland, lion, hyena, leopard, jackal and wild dogs are resident in Chobe Game Reserve.
